The Chinese cage puzzle is derived from the
Chinese Cross
Puzzle. If you glue eight of this latter puzzle together in a correct
fashion, you automatically get an Chinese cage puzzle.
Just like the Chinese cross puzzle, several
designs of this puzzle are possible. These puzzles vary from simple to extreme
difficult. The puzzle shown here has an intermediate difficulty. The puzzle is
made by 24 wooden rods with equal length. This length is 1 x 1 x 7 units, It has
a nice effect if you make this puzzle out of two different types of wood.
If you want to construct this
puzzle the first thing you have to do is make a 'frame' with the twelve
identical pieces (the J-pieces). This are the darker rods in the picture above.
After that the remaining rods has to be slid in the puzzle in the sequence: I, H, E, G, D, F, D, F, C, E, B,
A. If you have made all pieces correct and slide them in a correct order into
the puzzle the cage has to be completed.
