The briljant Rhombic Knot
puzzle is very suitable as a base for different puzzles. Since the Rhombic
knot puzzle is the same shape as a rhombic
dodecahedron, this puzzle is quite suitable for piling
up. The figure below shows an example of a variation.
Just as the
pieces of the Rhombic Knot, the pieces for the variations can be sawn out of
a square stick. In the figure below the different pieces are shown. The
puzzle above is made out of 24 A-pieces (dark brown) and 18 C-pieces (light
wood). It is fun to make the different pieces out of different kind of woods
so the puzzle gets a nice pattern if it is assembled. You can also use the paper model
en copy it on different colors of cardboard.
The figure
below shows four other puzzles, but other variations must be possible. I
have to mention that I have only made the small pyramid in real, so I am not
completely sure that the other puzzles will fit properly...
De small
pyramid is made out of 12 A-pieces and 6 B-pieces. The Ring is made out of
24 A-pieces and 6 B-pieces. The big pyramid can be constructed out of 18 A
pieces, 12 B-pieces and 6 C-pieces. The ball is made out of 18 A-pieces and
6 C-pieces, In the picture the A-pieces are dark brown, The B-pieces are
light colored and the C-pieces are greenish.
