The Rhombic Knot is a variation
on the Wooden Knot Puzzle. The six pieces form two pairs of three pieces which
can be shoved into each other. A solid figure will be constructed in the shape
of a rhombic dodecahedron.
The puzzle is
made out of six pieces. These pieces are all identical. In the picture above
all the six pieces are made out of a different kind of wood, but of course,
it is possible to make all the six pieces out of the same kind of wood.
The graph
below shows the pieces. The pieces have a two fold symmetry. The pieces can
be made out of a wooden stick with a square diameter. You can also construct
the pieces out of three different parts. If you use a square stick, use one
with a diameter of approximately 1.5 inch.
If the design
graph above is not clear enough, than you can use the paper
model. This
model is also very useful in making a draft puzzle and to found out how the
principle works.
Beside this,
the Rhombic
knot is a very suitable to make a lot of different puzzle
variations...
