Welcome
on this website.
This website
has been on the net for approximately four years. In that time the
site has inspired hunderds or even thousands of people in designing an
d making puzzles. That's nice, because the subject of this site is
designing and making threedimensional puzzles. These are nice puzzles
in al kind of shapes and sizes. wo-dimensional puzzles are more common, examples are
Tangram,
jigsaw puzzles or sliding puzzles. Three dimensional puzzles go further, they
don't only have an height and width, three-dimensional puzzles have more
depth...
There are a lot of
different three-dimensional puzzles. Common is of course the box of building
blocks in which all pieces have to be put in a specific kind of way till the lid
can be put on the box. clear out a kitchen cabinet can also be a hard puzzle.
The puzzles on this website are more abstract and vary from simple packing
problems to complex
cage puzzles.
This website is not
only a collection of puzzles, but also offers clues to make the puzzles by
yourself. All puzzles on this site can be made out of wood, metal or even paper.
Electrical tools can be useful, but almost all puzzles can be made with a metal
saw, fretsaw, file and sandpaper. Sometimes a electric drill is necessary. A
working table is most of the time necessary to make the puzzle in a safe and
accurate way. Sometimes the most
important tool for making a puzzle is a lot of patience.
The puzzles on this
website a categorized into four groups. When you search for a puzzle you have to
select one of these groups before you can select a specific puzzle. Every puzzle
gives a short description of the puzzle itself and clues for making the puzzle.
Sometimes extra design graphs are added.
If you have make a
puzzle for yourself you have to find the solution. If you can't put the puzzle
together after hours of puzzling or you are to lazy to find out the solution on
your own, you can check the solution pages. But remind two things: There are no
solutions for all puzzles and the solution pages are only for emergency.
Next to the
puzzles, a part of this website is dedicated to the description of
polyhedra. If you are talking about three-dimensional puzzles, you
will see that you have to cope with polyhedra. More knowledge about
the solids will aid in designing puzzles. The polyhedra can also serve
as source of inspiration for developing puzzles.
For more
information about three-dimensional puzzles you can search the web. Look at the link
page for more website. You can also read books about
this subject if you are bored of your computer.
New puzzles will be
added to this website on a regularly basis. Do you have your own 3D puzzle
design and would like to see it on the web you can contact me by e-mail.
I'm also interested in all other suggestions and remarks about this website
(such as errors in puzzle design and correction of texts).
Have
much puzzle fun,
Peter
